Avoiding the Hidden Costs of Dumpster Rentals

When you’re renting a dumpster for a house cleanout, construction project, or DIY project, you want to be sure to read you know what you’re paying for and what may sneak up as an added expense. At Eastern Waste, we are transparent with our prices and let our customers know what is included in our rentals and what may cost them more. Being prepared can help you get the most out of your dumpster rental to complete your next project.

Before you rent a dumpster, read on to avoid some of the hidden costs of dumpster rentals.

Hidden Costs of Dumpster Rentals

Overloading the Dumpster

Be aware of what your dumpster will hold and don’t exceed the limit by overloading it. Exceeding the weight limit or loading above the top can cause safety issues. At Eastern Waste, we advise our customers to only fill the dumpster to the brim of the dumpster. This will ensure that your dumpster is filled safely and help to prevent any additional fees.

Be aware of the weight of the items you are putting in your dumpster as well. If you have several extremely heavy items, you want to be sure you don’t exceed the weight limit for your size dumpster.

Prohibited Materials

Certain materials are not allowed in dumpsters because they pose environmental and safety hazards. Some examples of prohibited materials include:

  • Hazardous or Medical Waste
  • Vehicle or Tractor Batteries
  • Gasoline
  • Oil
  • Paint
  • Diesel Fuel
  • Tires
  • Paint

Putting these items in your dumpster can result in fees and pose a danger to the environment. Contact your local regulations to determine where these items can be safely disposed of.

Specialty Items

While there are prohibited items in your dumpster rental that lead to additional fees, there are also specialty items that can lead to more fees. These items need special handling because they may not be able to be disposed of that easily. This can include mattresses, appliances, and air conditioners.

Extended Rental Time

Look to see the duration of your dumpster rental. If you keep your dumpster for longer than the agreement states, you will be charged an additional fee. At Eastern Waste, you can keep one of our dumpsters for up to 3 weeks. If the rental extends that time, you will be charged an additional fee for each day you keep the dumpster.
